GENERAL INFORMATION

Dept- Entry requirements:

1. REGULAR PROGRAM:
a) National Diploma or equivalent in Nursing
b)Nigerian Registered Nurse (NRN) Certificate.
c) Nigerian Registered Midwife Certificate or any other basic nursing certificate e.g. Psychiatric Nurse Certificate plus one year post-qualification experience.
d) Holders of the above must possess the basic O'level credits in Eng lang, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Duration of program - 2 years (2 academic sessions of 2 semesters each) post basic nursing course leading to award of Higher National Diploma (HND) for Public Health. Certification: HND in Public Health Nursing (WAHEB).

2. ABRIDGED PROGRAMME
a) Holders of BNSC in nursing
b) 500 level nursing students from the University with RN/RM
Duration of program - one year. Certification: HND in Public Health Nursing (WAHEB).
*Note:* For the abridged programme, candidate must possess the basic O'level credits in Eng lang, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Duration of program - one year. Certification: HND in Public Health Nursing (WAHEB).

CAREER PROSPECTS:
The certificate can be used to:
- attain University Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health or other related fields which can be a prerequisite for Masters in Public Health.
2). Being a preventive aspect of Nursing, opportunities abound for public health nurses in public health oriented local and international health organizations. W.H.O, UNICEF and UNESCO are some of the few places where public health nurses can work
3). You can qualify to become a public health educator, where you can work in many different domestic or international organizations.
